The CDC Is Going After America’s Youth #TeenTuesday
Contributing article by Teens Against Mandates
This past Thursday was a regrettable day in American history. The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted unanimously in favor (15-0) to add the COVID vaccine to the routine childhood vaccine schedule. This decision was made in complete disregard of the mountain of evidence against the efficacy of the shot, particularly for children. Not to mention, even if a child were to catch COVID, it poses virtually no risk to them.
Once the vaccine is on the childhood schedule and no longer operating under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), vaccine manufacturers are not liable for any vaccine-related injuries associated with that vaccine. However, they can be held liable for any injuries caused by a fully licensed vaccine unless that vaccine has been added to the childhood vaccine schedule. This means that the vaccine manufacturers will have liability protection for both the child and adult vaccines. Further, many public schools look to the CDC’s recommendations to justify their mandating of the COVID vaccine in the entrance health requirements.
However, the CDC’s decision will ultimately be left up to the states. Many state politicians have already come out against mandating the shot for attendance in public schools. These include Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Governor candidate of Tennessee Bill Lee, Governor candidate of Arizona Kari Lake, and Governor candidate Joe Lombardo of Nevada. Unfortunately, governors like Gavin Newsom have already announced that they will make the vaccine mandatory as soon as it gains full FDA approval.
The Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) has already pledged to fund legal challenges against any state that mandates the vaccine to attend school. Attorney Aaron Siri has written an article on how he and ICAN’s legal team will try to knock down these mandates in court. While this is great news, legal battles can take many years to unfold.
In the meantime, where does this leave parents who do not want their child to receive the COVID-19 vaccine? Will we see a mass exodus out of states like California, or will we see new communities being created in order to homeschool students? Will parallel education systems be the new norm in places across the country? How might a sudden shift to homeschooling affect a student in high school who already has an established friend group?
Personally, I think it would be traumatic and isolating to be pulled out of school so abruptly, having to leave my friends, teachers, and the environment I’ve grown to feel comfortable in. It’s hard to believe that this issue has turned so many people’s lives upside down.
Despite an overwhelming majority of parents (approximately 95%) deciding not to vaccinate their children under 5-years-old, will they be bullied into getting it for school attendance for the upcoming year? Or will they fight back? If there was ever a time to stand up, the time is now.
Thoughtful article on the issues---thank you!
